Alpharma Animal Health Invites Students to Give Farmers a High Five

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. (August 31, 2010) — Alpharma Animal Health encourages people to give farmers a high five through their ag student video contest kicking off in early September.

The video contest encourages students to team up and show their passion for agriculture by depicting a positive story about America’s farmers and the food, fuel and fiber they produce. This year’s contest challenges its participants to creatively demonstrate modern agriculture and how they “Give Farmers a High Five.”

“We are looking forward to showing our support for the work farmers do to feed the world,” says Jeff Mellinger, Global Leader, Sales and Marketing for Alpharma. “We are pleased with the success the contest has had in the past and we hope to continue to build momentum toward a positive outlook on agriculture.”

The video contest is a part of Alpharma’s Reach Teach Learn educational stewardship program. Reach Teach Learn supports local school districts and colleges through initiatives that encourage students to learn more about agriculture and how their food is produced, and to share their insights and knowledge about what they have learned.

The 2010 contest will begin with preregistration on September 13 and continue through September 27. All video entries must be submitted online by October 25. After videos have been submitted voting will begin and run through November 8. The winners of the competition will be announced on November 15, receiving $5,000, $2,000 and $1,000 for first- through third-place finishes, respectively. In addition to the contest website, winning videos will also be posted on YouTube™.

Starting in 2010 a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to the college supporting the winning student team. Also, students from the winning team will have an opportunity to work with a professional video studio to see first-hand how professional videos are produced, as well as learn more about advocating for agriculture.
